Course Overview
About Oracle Database 12c Installation Training:
In the course of Oracle Database 12c Installation, you will be learning about
-
Introduction:
In this section, you will learn about the Oracle tools viz. Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) and Oracle Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA) and how they are used in the installation of Oracle Database 12c installation in the Windows environment.
We will start with an overview of the Oracle database 12c product and its new multitenant architecture and get familiarized with the new concepts of Container Database (CDB) and Pluggable Database (PDB).
We will also learn about the fundamental components of a CDB in the form of Root, Seed, and PDBs, each of which is a container within the CDB.
We will also see how a PDB is portable and backward compatible with previous versions of the Oracle database. We will also look into hardware and software pre-requisites that must be met for installing the Oracle Database 12c in the Windows environment.
-
Downloading the Oracle Database Software:
In this section, you will be downloading the files required to install Oracle database on a Windows environment. This will be done by accessing the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) site and using the Oracle Single Sign-on (SSN) to access the files.
From the site, you will be downloading the files for Oracle Database 12c installation (x64) – Version 12.1.0.1. You will be downloading 2 zipped files related to Oracle Database 12c installation Release 1 (12.1.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64) in the same Windows directory or folder.
You will then use the default built-in extraction tool provided by Windows to extract both files and load them into Windows database folder (default).
-
Installing the Oracle Database Software:
In this section, you will be using the downloaded and extracted files in the database folder to install the Oracle database and create an Oracle Home User account. You will also be creating and configuring a database using the DBCA tool.
This Oracle database contains the HR schema that will be used for subsequent processing. The database created will be in the form of a CDB and a PDB, the PDB contains a sample or example schemas including the HR schema. After the DBCA creates the database, you can use the Enterprise Manager Database Express to manage the Oracle database and unlock accounts.
-
Verifying the Installation:
In this section, you will use Windows tools to verify that the Oracle installation is complete and Oracle services have been started successfully by the Oracle database. You will also review the Oracle Home User on the file system that contains database files as well as Oracle database installation software.
You will also review the default Oracle Home User folder created by the installer that contains software files related to the database. You will also look at the tnsnames.ora files located in the default folder under Oracle Home to view the network configuration settings.
The tnsnames.ora file will be updated to create a database connect alias for the PDB that was created during installation. This is necessary to access the HR schema and perform database operations.
-
Connecting to the Oracle Database Using SQL*Plus:
In this section, you will be connecting to the pluggable database using the SQL*Plus utility. You will also unlock the HR schema and query the database to verify that data records in the database are correctly loaded.
