What is it?
OneNote is Microsoft’s digital note-taking application that works across platforms and devices, including on the web. Users can jot down ideas, to-dos, lecture and meeting notes, vacation plans, and/or snap a picture and other forms of information and OneNote saves it and syncs your notes across your devices so you can access them wherever you go.
It is designed for collaborating in such a manner that users can share it with their family, classmates and teachers, colleagues and employees, and other people where they can see as well as edit notes accordingly. It is an organizational tool with add-ons and features, and is even integrated with other applications.
OneNote is an immensely flexible tool with more additional features and add-ons providing its users the best way to keep their day-to-day operations planned and organized, as well as share them with their colleagues, friends, family, co-workers and other.

OneNote has free apps that are compatible with PC, Mac, Windows Phone, IPhone, IPad, Apple Watch, Android, and Android Wear devices. You can go to www.onenote.com to get access to your notes. OneNote keeps all your notes—in one place and with you, that can be accessed anywhere and at any time.

Advantages:
- Free-form Information Gathering – Unlike word processing applications, OneNote allows its users to enter information on a virtually unbounded document window, without any enforced page layout or structure. Users can type text, create handwritten notes, design tables, and take photos, insert digital images into pages on this tabbed electronic version of a notebook. In OneNote, users are even allowed to move pages within the notebook, add annotations with word processing or drawing tools. They can insert audio, video, and audio-visual recordings. Instant search allows users to find anything they have entered or saved.

- Multi-user Capability – OneNote as an application saves data automatically. With built-in collaboration functionality, it allows more than one user to work on the same page at the same time, using it like a virtual whiteboard. With this, it also enables its users to edit notes offline with a separate offline copy, further synchronizing and merging the edited data once online connection is available and established. OneNote also allows the users to share the notebook so that it is available on other computers or on the web, only if they want to do so.
- Cloud-service API – OneNote API allows the merger with more than 25 third-party apps. Some of these are from Brother, Epson, Genius, eQuil and LiveScribe. There are integrations with AutoCAD, IFTTT, an EverNote importer, with WordPress, and Zapier
Another way to share on OneNote is by using Microsoft Edge, the new browser for Windows 10, writing notes directly on the web, and then sharing it to OneNote. Users can take pictures of the documents and whiteboards with Office Lens on their smart-phones, pads, and tablets.
OneNote can be used professionally and collaboratively as:
- Weekly Goal Tracker– updates your weekly achievements and shares them with the managers or team members to keep them motivated.
- Procedure Manual – records step by step procedures for every team member and each of their tasks. This comes in handy even when the team members are out of the office or unavailable.
- Company policies– you can write your company policies and guidelines for every employee and member of the organization to access, and even set password to protect sensitive sections.
- Motivational, Inspirational and Humorous Quotes– you can uplift and motivate the employees and co-workers by sharing different kinds of quotes, however, keeping them completely professional and formal.

Good course instruction. Covered all of the basics and instruction is very thorough and well organized. Instructor was clear and very knowledgeable. Learned new things about OneNote 2013 that will make me use it more often. I liked how the instructor explained how users can enter typed text via keyboard, create tables, and insert pictures, and multi-media. Before this lesson, I didn’t know you could share your notebooks with others for viewing or editing.

Lecture moved along nicely. It provides a good in-depth course on OneNote. I would have preferred a little more time spent on the math functions, but otherwise, glad I took the course.
