Ajay Devgn Biography
Ajay Devgn, the shining name of Indian cinema, was initially called Vishal Veeru Devgan. He is the son of action director Veeru Devgan and has appeared in more than a hundred films in different genres. Devgn is the recipient of India’s highest award in the film industry, the National Film Awards, and has also secured four Filmfare Awards. The list doesn’t end here; he is also honored by Padma Shri, India’s 4th highest civilian award.
Ajay started his own production house named Ajay Devgn FFilms back in 2000. He produced his first film, ‘U Me Aur Hum,’ featuring himself and his wife, Kajol Devgan.
Family Life
Usually, the lives of Bollywood superstars are always controversial, but in the case of Ajay Devgn, this is an exception. He got married to actress Kajol in 1999 after four years of relationship.
The media criticize their marriage by calling them incompatible because they have opposite natures. It did not affect the relationship, and till today they are happy. In 2003, a girl was born to bless the couple, and in 2010 baby boy Yug came into the world. He loves spending time with children and is a liberal parent. Ajay is very close to his daughter Nyasa as he said in an interview.
Career
a) From 1991-1999
Ajay, as an actor, opened to roles in different genres that make him a versatile artist. Devgn’s journey in Bollywood began in 1991 with the movie ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ for which he won Filmfare Award for Best Debut Male. From this movie, Ajay never looked back, and he went on to the following levels of success in his career. After completing Kaante, he did several successful films like, ‘Jigar’ ‘Vijaypath,’ ‘Kanoon,’ ‘Suhag,’ ‘Jung,’ ‘Itihaas,’ and ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.’
By the end of the century, Ajay had many movies in his lot. In 2000, he produced his first movie Raju Chacha with Kajol, a moderate success.
b) From 2000-2009
During this period of 10 years, Devgan starred in movies critically acclaimed by the media. We have movies like Company, Ram Gopal Verma’s Bhoot, Gangajal, Chori Chori, and LOC Kargil- a film by JP Dutta. He got much acclaim for his movie Khakee released in 2004, for his negative role. This movie was one of the highest grosser in 2004.
Ajay Devgan’s career took flight after collaborating with action director Rohit Shetty. The Golmaal series, directed by Rohit Shetty, became very successful in his career. He also did movies like All the Best under Rohit Shetty’s direction.
c) From 2010 – Present
Today, Ajay is a household name with his best performances in movies like Drishyam, Raid, Singham, and Bhuj. You won’t believe it, but Ajay is one of the highest-paid actors in Bollywood at present.
His style and persona are better than ever. He transformed himself for movies like Singham and Singham Returns, both action movies. The audience is a fan of his comic timing and acting. Tanhaji became famous worldwide, the movie won three National Awards, and Ajay got an award for Best actor. His recent release Drishyam 2, is a substantial commercial success.
Awards and Nominations
In 32 years of his career, Ajay has won over 32 awards in various categories. He is the winner of India’s most prestigious National Film Awards four times and has also won four Filmfare Awards.
The list does not end here. He also won the Zee Cine Screen awards and Stardust awards. Former President Shri Pranab Mukherjee honored the Padma Shri award on him in 2016.
Upcoming Projects
Ajay keeps releasing his movies every year and will do so in the coming year. The films lined up are Golmaal 5, Maidan, Bhola, and Tu Jhuthi Main Makkar.
