Course Overview
What is SolidWorks?
SolidWorks is a superior Computer-aided Design software much utilized in transforming the Engineering, Architectural, Commercial and Product based blueprints and concepts into 2D and 3D solid models. The software brings the power of 3D to help every Engineer in creating a virtual clone of a product. It harnesses the design engineer’s imagination and caters valuable features to bring creativity to their designs.
With SolidWorks designs and concepts of high complexity can be quickly converted into Solid 3D models. SolidWorks’ user-friendly and simplest Graphical User Interface that leveraged the potential of application to stay ahead of the market competitors as AutoCAD. Some of the important features of SolidWorks application are the Solid Modeling, e-drawing, DWG Editor, Simulation, PhotoView 360, Toolbox, ToIAnalyst and Circuit works.
According to a survey conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2006, SolidWorks was selected as highly productive and potential CAD software. The survey revealed that the productivity difference between SolidWorks and other reputed CAD software tools is a staggering 95 percent, which left the counterparts far from matching the standards of the application. On numerous occasions, the same results are conveyed in various surveys that, SolidWorks provides better design visualization, offers better designing tools for more précised products, faster design iterations, design with minimum or no errors, creates a more aesthetic design and has high customer satisfaction ratio.
One of the important attributes of the application is its ability to design numerous products and services and put them to test in a virtual world. The model proved as a cost effective method as the prototype testing phase can be carried out within the software once the product designing is finished. As a result, the software saves a great amount of money investing in the initial testing process and equally saves a great deal of time.
The core functionalities of SolidWorks software are
- Parts & Assembling of Products
- Simulations & Analysis
- Animations & Rendering
- Cost Estimation
- Documentation
SolidWorks is equally important in the field of engineering education by adding a great value to the career prospects.
About SolidWorks Essential Training
For 3D designers and Engineers, it is highly essential to keep abreast with the Technological advancements of the world, irrespective of the Industry you are working. In the last two decades, SolidWorks witnessed an ocean of changes, gaining more control and adding more value to its features and attributes.
This, 11+ hours of “About SolidWorks Essential Training” course gives you a Fundamental and practical understanding of the most used features and tools of the application.
Section 1 – Introduction to SolidWorks
We start the training session with a lengthy briefing about SolidWorks application. The topics of discussion in this lecture are to the core purpose and functionalities of the software. In line with that, we also discuss the Interface and the important GUI elements of the application.
Section 2 – Mouse & Format
One of the most important topics that help you navigate and enjoy the user-friendly nature of SolidWorks is by Mousing around. This section of the tutorial will help you look into the options that are under your mouse buttons. You will come to know the functionalities of the three mouse buttons. You will know how to select objects, access features and perform tasks with the help of the mouse.
Section 3 – Extrude
In this part of the tutorial, we will start introducing you to the important features of the software. We start talking about the base feature, Extrude. You will know how to select a part of an object and extrude a material by pulling it out of the shape you intended.
Section 4 – Revolved Boss/Base and Revolved Cut
During this session, you will know about another two important features that will come handy while designing 3D objects in SolidWorks. Here, you will learn the Revolved Base/Boss. You can learn how to create a three-dimensional object with the help of 2D lines. You will also learn to edit the lines, to transform the shape of the 3D object. Alongside with that, you will also learn the Revolved Cut feature.
Section 5 – Swept Boss/Base
Another important part of the SolidWorks application is its sweep features. The session is dedicated to teaching the sweep features and how you will create shapes along the paths. You will learn how to create ergonomic shapes using a profile and paths curves. During this process, we will take you into detailed practical lectures about creating rectangular, circular and sweep patterns of other kinds.
Section 6 – Loft
Lofted features are more complex shape generators in SolidWorks. At the first look, you may not make out the difference between Sweep and Loft. Very soon you will learn the intricacy accommodated inside the Lofty features.
Here, you are introduced to the loft features and how you can use multiple curves to create a shape. We start with the basic loft examples and discuss creating complex shapes using the feature.
Section 7 – Fillet
Fillet is not a design element of SolidWorks software. But, it is employed to add cosmetic beauty to the part of the shape. Here, the Instructor will teach you how to add appeal to the hard edges of an object. Besides the Fillet feature, you will also learn chamfer, Rib, Shell and more topics.
Section 8 – Linear Pattern
A Linear pattern creates geometry along the straight lines. We will quickly explore the properties of the Linear Pattern in this lecture.
Section 9 – Circular Pattern
Similar to the Linear Patter, a Circular pattern creates shapes by repeating them within a circle. The simple properties are discussed.
Section 10 – Mirror
With the help of the Mirror tool, you can easily create a copy of the object. You will learn how to create a symmetrically perfect mirror image.
Section 12 – Appearance Part
This section of the lecture is focused on the appearance of the parts. You will learn how to change the appearance of the parts as you intend to look at them and how to make them look as materials we use.
Section 13 – SimulationXpress Analysis
Here, we will take you through the simulation part of SolidWorks. We will discuss how the SolidWorks simulation process that mimics the reality and analyze in length about the subject.
Section 14 – Making Parts and Assembly
Here is the prime purpose of the software and we will discuss it in this chapter. We will built few parts individually and bring them together to Assemble and form into a single object. An assembly can start from two objects and build up to thousands of objects.
Section 15 – Explode
Explode is used to add ease to the Assembly, Grouping, and Ungrouping process. Here you will learn how to use the Explode command to make your job easy while assembling parts.
Section 16 – Drawing Dimensions
At this point of the tutorial, you will learn how Drawing Dimensions indicate the exact size of the parts or an assembly you are using. You will also learn about various critical measurements you should concentrate while working.
Section 17 – Drawing Annotations
Annotations act as another dimension within the application. In this lecture, you will learn to work with annotations and add them to an assembly. You will also come to know more about drawing annotations.
Section 18, 19, 20 – Practical Exercises and Templates
By this time you are already aware of various features, tools and functionalities of the SolidWorks, it is time to take you through some practical workflow. In the last three sessions of the course, you will come across various methods of using the tools for designing the exercises.

Course Testimonials
Before taking this course, I was in dilemma to choose SolidWorks or AutoCAD as my future career option. Thanks to this course. Now I think that I made a right decision opting for SolidWorks essential training. The tool by tool detailed explanation and practical way of training worked for me. Thanks again – Asuero Alin
I really liked the way the chapters are boiled down into individual subjects. It gives me a clear picture of every step of the software. I concentrated on one part at once, played the tutorials again and again before I enter into the next chapter. I am a kind of slow learner and this is what I always needed – Andrew
I tried learning Auto CAD a week days before when I started learning SolidWorks the difference is clearly visible. This software and interface are much clearer and easy to learn. The Instructor is awesome, I liked the way he mentioned things that seem to be negligible, somehow I still couldn’t make out where can I apply every point he said. The course is good, a live exercise may have added more fun – Alice
