New Year Resolutions for 2024- Why I Wrote This Article?
Hello Readers 🙂
I am Dikshita Jain, the Editorial Head at EDUCBA. Today, I want to share a part of my journey and explain why I wrote this article.
Although resolutions intrigued me as a kid, I did not take them seriously. It wasn’t until I grew up that I realized the true power of resolutions. Since 2020 (after the pandemic), I have committed to focusing on my health and setting some health-related resolutions for myself. A few of my resolutions included drinking 2 liters of water daily, meditating for 15 minutes, reading at least 20 pages while walking, and many more. As we are almost at the end of 2023, I have followed through with my resolutions with at least an 80% success rate.
As an editor, I have a challenging job and found myself neglecting my health. This made me think about resolutions and inspired me to write about them to help you through your self-improvement journey. I usually love to write about Finance and Excel domain, but I felt the need for a break and wanted to write something fun and light-hearted.
In school, resolutions seemed simple, but as I grew up, I realized that we need to categorize them based on different situations. Below, I have listed some categories of new year resolutions for 2024. Come along with me on this journey.
A) Family New Year Resolutions for 2024
1. Plan a monthly family outing.
There is nothing quite like planning a monthly family outing to bond with your loved ones. Picture this: a sunny beach, with your dad dozing off, your mom gazing at the birds flying by, and your sister building sandcastles. You are simply taking in the sound of the waves as everyone around you enjoys each other’s company. These moments are priceless and create lasting memories.
How to make this happen?
- Start by creating a list of places to visit, like beaches, parks, museums, or nearby attractions.
- Let different family members take turns choosing a place each month.
- Use a shared calendar to plan and schedule outings in advance.
2. Have one day a week where the whole family eats together.
Eating meals together as a family can create a cozy environment that brings back happy memories and creates new ones that can be fondly reminisced in the future. This can be a great way to strengthen your bond with loved ones.
How to make this happen?
- Gather everyone on a Saturday or Sunday when everyone’s in the mood for some delicious homemade food.
- For those who know how to cook, it’s your time to shine and cook some delicious meals.
- For those who don’t know how to cook, don’t worry! You can always help with the dishes. 😉
- Establish a “no mobile at the table” rule to give your undivided attention to each other and, most importantly, to food!
3. Have a family meeting each month to talk about goals and achievements.
A monthly family meeting lets everyone share their goals and successes. This helps the family feel closer and more connected.
How to make this happen?
- Someone good at planning can organize the meetings.
- Choose a day when everyone can join, like a Saturday or Sunday.
- Ask each family member to talk about their goals.
- Celebrate each family member’s accomplishments with a small cake.
4. Plan a family DIY Project or home improvement task.
Doing a home project with your family is a great way to have fun together and make your home look even better. Imagine painting your living room together, splashing some color on each other, and creating memories that you will cherish forever. It’s so much fun and interactive that you won’t even realize how quickly the time flies by. By the end of the day, you will have a beautiful new addition to your home and a stronger connection with your family.
How to make this happen?
- Pick a family project, such as painting a room.
- Plan ahead to ensure everyone can participate.
- Assign tasks based on each family member’s interests.
- Don’t forget to take breaks for snacks and laughs!
5. Plan a movie or game night.
Family movie and game nights create endless possibilities for bonding, laughter, and shared enjoyment, whether watching funny classics like “Home Alone” or embarking on adventures with “Jurassic Park” and “Harry Potter”. B) Student New Year Resolutions for 2024
6. Create a Weekly Study Schedule.
With a weekly study schedule, students can achieve academic success, feel less stressed, and have more time for other activities.
How to make this happen?
- First, figure out when you study best – morning, afternoon, evening, or night.
- After that, set aside time for each subject you need to study. For instance, start with the hardest subject if you are a morning person.
- Use a calendar to remember important deadlines.
- If you often forget things, set reminders on your phone.
7. Learn something new outside academics.
Learning new skills or subjects beyond academics is good for students in many ways. It helps build confidence, and you can find new interests and uncover potential careers or hobbies. So, if you love music, pick up an instrument or start singing. If computers are your thing, you can learn coding.
How to make this happen?
- To know your interests, ask yourself- “What do I enjoy doing in my free time”?
- Then, find resources like books, online courses, or workshops to help you learn more.
- You can ask experts in that field for help.
- Don’t expect to master a new skill or topic overnight. Be patient and celebrate your progress along the way.
8. Take breaks and relax during your study time.
Let’s say Justin is a student who studies for long hours, sometimes even late into the night, while preparing for his exams. However, as days pass, he starts feeling exhausted and stressed. To overcome this, Justin takes regular breaks between his study routine, during which he takes short walks and listens to music. This helps him care for his mental and physical health. As a result, he performs well in his exams. Similarly, you can aim to prioritize your well-being while achieving academic success.
How to make this happen?

By joining a sports club, you may improve your physical fitness and work on teamwork and leadership skills. I used to set goals for myself, and when I reached them, the feeling of accomplishment was amazing. Moreover, it’s important to celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem to you. For instance, let’s say you are trying to get better at math and are putting in a lot of effort. When you see progress, celebrate that victory.

How to make this happen?
- Walking with friends or family can make exercise more enjoyable. So grab your favorite person and go for a walk together!
- Try to take a short walk during your breaks instead of sitting.
17. Prioritize mental health.
Mental stress is a common issue that can affect anyone. Students often face mental stress due to academic pressures. Employees can face mental stress with a heavy workload or a challenging work environment. Family members can also experience mental stress when dealing with conflicts, health issues, or financial pressures. Therefore, it is important to recognize the signs of mental stress and take steps to manage it effectively.

However, you realize you have forgotten its use and feel you should have refreshed your knowledge. Don’t worry; this can happen to anyone with any skill, not just Excel. Therefore, as an employee, it’s important to continuously learn advanced skills in your domain or even learn a new skill to help you advance in your career.
