#1 Dehing Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary
The sanctuary is around 111 sq. Km and attract more tourists as it’s the only rainforest present in Assam. It is usually of three parts: Upper Dihing River, Dirok Rainforest, and Jeypore. It also includes two elephant sanctuaries such as Dehing Patkai and Dibru-Deomali Elephant Sanctuary. #2 Joypur Rainforest
The Joypur or Jeypore Rainforest is popular as a heaven on earth and is green throughout the year due to the rain. It covers an area of about 108 sq km, it includes orchids and Holocaust trees. Ajae, Nahar, Bohot, Segun, and Sam are other trees commonly found here. Due to the suitable climate, this place is the habitat of sika deer, pythons, leopards, elephants, flying squirrels, and other animals. The best time to visit this forest is in February, due to the adventure activities such as rafting, camping, hiking, elephant riding, and bird watching. To reach this place is by a personal car or by a rented one from the nearby cities namely Naharkatia and Guwahati.
#3 Namphake Village
The village of Lord Buddha named Namphake village is the most fascinating place to visit in Dibrugarh. It is present about 37 km from Dibrugarh. The village is in nature along the Burhi Dihing River. The beautiful Buddhist monastery is also known as a meditation hub and is the major reason tourists visit this village. The important places in the temple are the Ashoka Pillar and the stupa. The main temple also houses a golden Buddha statue and a tank of holy water called the Mucalinda tank.
The best time to reach this place is from October to March, there are many festivals during these months, one of them being Poi. March brings the Nen-Chi festival, and Poi-Nun-Hok is a celebration honoring Lord Buddha. Visit during these festivals one can also experience the traditional dance of the women in Assam. One can reach this place via local transport like a rickshaw or taxi. Car rental and taxi services are available directly from Mohanbari to Namphake village.
#4 Naharkatia
Naharkatia is an example for one who is curious to see how the tea plants cultivated are. The name Naharkatia is after the Prince of Nahar who was beheaded by an Ahom noble named Kalia. Currently, the town in the Dibrugarh area is thriving economically and is well-known as a favorite picnic location. A religious place whose founder was Sriram Ata known as Vainavi Satra is another place to visit. The best time to visit is winter. A visit is highly recommended during the Durga Pooja festival to see this city illuminated and beautifully decorated.
