In VGA it supports 256 colors at a time where using DIA (digital to analog) converter for converting 6-bit color for each color will have 262, 144 colors which consist the combination of red, blue, and green. Whereas SVGA can support either 16 or 256 colors at a time which produce 16 million colors that SVGA can support which means it supports 8-bit color can choose from 256 color combination.
Cable description
VGA cables are thinner with foil shielded and these cables have 15 pin configuration out of which only 14 pins are used and these cables support shorter distance for signal transmission and if want to extend then can use a repeater or signal enhancer attached to VGA cables and hence support the lesser resolution. Whereas SVGA cables are thicker with braided shield along with the same pin configuration as VGA but it supports a longer distance that is more than 10 feet as it has a higher resolution rate.
Memory Consumption
In VGA as the signals support lower resolution therefore it may consume lesser memory than SVGA up to a maximum of 256k. Whereas SVGA cables support higher resolution it consumes more memory than VGA up to a maximum of 256k to 1024k.
Cost
VGA is less expensive when compared to SVGA as they support shorter distances with smaller resolution. SVGA cables are expensive as they support longer distance as they require more wires. It all depends on the requirement as both cables are the same.
